Summer Shift Dress

I don’t know why, but something about wearing muted shades of orange, red and pink make me feel so me. I noticed that whenever I shop for something in the summer, my eye gravitates to these colors. All my favorite summer clothes end up being those colors (like this bodysuit, this playsuit, and swimsuit). Today’s summer shift dress by Tobi (c/o) and platform espadrilles by Vanessa Wu (similar here) are my latest warm toned favorites. The combo is just super summery, fun, and beachy. I loveeee it!

I was curious about history of the shift dress, so I googled it — it originated in the late ’50s and became popular in the ’60s! The term “shift” signifies a shift in culture during those times. It represented the youthful, free and revolutionary attitudes.

A classic shift dress is a short, sleeveless dress that hangs from the shoulders. This ribbed shift dress literally hangs from the shoulders. It has tie up straps (a good feature for those who have problems with straps being too long).

Platform Espadrilles

I paired this shift dress with another retro styled item — platform espadrilles! There are sooo many vintage trends making a comeback. One of my faves is the platform shoe. It’s comfier and more casual than a heel, but still adds height while giving your feet and legs a break.

Espadrilles are my go to warm weather shoe. Since I wanted to keep this look more on the casual side, I went with these these cute Vanessa Wu espadrilles that I found during an Anthro Day sale (20% off!). They’re so casual, summery AND add height.

What’s your favorite throwback style trend?

I really like muted tones too but even better is the way you added some contrast with your aztec patterend espadrilles – supercute!

Cute! And definitely love this color on you. I think we totally talked about this, it’s good to know which colors are for you! (Now I just need to figure out which ones are for me…)
