Ballerina Fitness Tips | Get Leotard Ready (aka Bikini Ready!)

Spring’s here and bikini season’s on it’s way. This time of the year, I kick my workouts up a notch to strengthen, tighten and tone my core, arms, legs and glutes.

My current workout schedule consists of a combination of megaformer, yoga and cardio barre workouts (I’m aiming for 3-4 classes per week).

Some days life gets in the way and I don’t have time or energy to go out and take a workout class. Other days I simply can’t sign up because the class is full. That’s why I’ve been looking for efficient exercises I could do at home with little equipment.

Remember this post on how to get a ballerina body with Arch Contemporay Ballet? These ladies gave me some more ballerina fitness tips — their favorite at home workouts to get leotard ready for a show. Their Spring Season Performance, Innate Prismrose is coming up and it runs from March 24-26, 2017.

From arms, core, glutes to legs, here’s Arch Contemporary Ballet’s must-do workouts to get leotard ready (aka bikini ready!):

“Being a petite dancer at 5’2, I like to whittle my waistline and define my shoulders with side planks. It also helps with holding my core strong for all the fun lifts in Innate Prismrose!”

I like to do about 15 REAL pushups every day to get my body leotard ready. Get creative and try to do pushups in different positions every day to make sure you’re strengthening other areas of the body as well. You can do one leg to the side, one leg in the air to the back, and try putting your hands in a diamond on the floor to switch up.”

Squats are my go to workout! They are great for toning everything from the waist down!”

Sheena Annalise

“To get my glutes bikini and leotard ready I do basic Pilates, to help tone and get rid of cellulite. I get on all fours, and lift one leg back and the opposite forward out and up. I switch sides and do this about 50 times. Then I gradually do it faster and faster in smaller intervals of 25, 15, and 5. This workout usually takes me about 30 minutes so I play my favorite playlist.”

The workouts they’re sharing with us are all quick and effective — so perfect for when you’re pressed for time, but need to get active. I can’t wait to try these moves soon!

Stay up to date with Arch Contemporary Ballet on Instagram. ACB’s next show Innate Prismrose is March 24-26, 2017 in NYC. If you’re in New York or nearby, I totally recommend checking out the show. Learn more here

Love it! I’m a big fan of the cardio barre classes – there’s a new barre/yoga studio that just opened in point breeze!

Thank you Sarah!! Me too! Barre is just so fun! I’ve been going to a studio in Old City, which is a bit of a walk for me but nice when it’s warm out. We should take a barre class together!
